The name is said to come from the fact that they are not very wary of humans, often landing on ship sails where they are easily caught.
The way blue-footed boobies walk on land and their courtship dances certainly have a goofy, charming quality to them.
However, they are actually magnificent seabirds with a wingspan of 150 cm, and the sight of them plunging into the sea like bullets to catch fish is breathtakingly beautiful.
