Fireworks

This is a hand-carved wooden dog (Pekingese).
It is made of cypress and painted with acrylics.
The dimensions are approximately 9.5 cm in height, 5.3 cm in width, and 6 cm in depth.

Around the time of the Obon holiday, our relatives would often get together, and as a child, I was frequently allowed to play with fireworks.
I remember us children squabbling over fireworks that had character designs on them.
It’s funny how, when I was little, I would get so frustrated if I didn't get the fireworks I wanted, yet now that I'm old enough to buy my own sets, I have no desire to hog them all for myself.

Apparently, fireworks were originally meant to console the spirits of the dead and ward off epidemics.
May this pandemic end soon and may the world be at peace.

It is strange that even when I became old enough to buy my own set of fireworks, I never wanted to keep them all to myself and do them all by myself.

I hope that the disease epidemic will soon be over and the world will be at peace.
