Yamabushi Wundervogel

This is a wood carving of a bat (Ussuri tube-nosed bat).
The material is cypress, and the coloring is done with acrylic paint.
The dimensions are approximately 10 cm in height, 6.5 cm in width, and 6.5 cm in depth.

When hiking in the mountains, you can sometimes find these bats resting among the dead leaves of butterbur plants.
It is said that Japanese mountains were thought to be inhabited by gods, and those who practiced asceticism on these sacred mountains to attain divine powers were called "yamabushi" (mountain ascetics), who were considered synonymous with the "tengu" (mythical creatures).
