This is a wood carving of a fish (mudskipper).
The material is Japanese cypress (partly bamboo), and it is colored with acrylic paint.
The size is approximately 10 cm in height, 7 cm in width, and 10 (9) cm in depth (the figure in parentheses is the size of the body only, with parts removed).

I remember "shiohigari" (clam digging) as an activity where, during the low tide of a spring tide, you would walk way out onto the beach and pick out the larger shells from those lying around. I wonder if that beach is still there today.

I think shiohigari(clam digging), used to be something where you went out to the beach, which spread far and wide, at low tide on a high tide day, and picked up the big ones among the fallen shells, but I wonder if that beach is still there today.

ご購入時の注意点 Points to note when purchasing

To prevent damage during shipping, the parts will be sent unassembled (please see the second image; this is how it will be shipped). After arrival, please assemble the parts and secure them with wood glue.
Returns or exchanges due to customer preference are generally not accepted.
You may notice minor scratches or slight warping, which are part of the unique charm of handmade items.
Colors and appearance may vary depending on your device or lighting conditions.
As the material is wood, repeated cycles of moisture absorption and drying may cause cracks to form. Additionally, if placed in a high-temperature area, natural oils within the wood may melt and seep to the surface. We recommend storing the item in a location with stable humidity and temperature. In particular, please avoid storage in direct sunlight or near air conditioning vents, as these will accelerate the deterioration of the wood.
Please ask any questions before purchasing, as we may be unable to accommodate certain requests after an order is placed.
As we process shipments on weekends and holidays, please note that it may take some time before your order is dispatched depending on when it is placed. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
