Lollipop

This is a wood carving of a Melanitis phedima larva.
The material is cypress, and it is colored with acrylic paint.
The size is approximately 10 cm in height, 8 cm in width, and 10.5 cm in depth.

While the larvae of Mycalesis gotama and Mycalesis francisca wear "cat-ear" masks, the Melanitis phedima wears a black rabbit mask.
For a while after hatching, they gather with their siblings, which is adorable, looking like a group of little ones playing together.
As they molt repeatedly, unique patterns emerge on each individual's black rabbit mask, and then they set off on their own.
It is fascinating to watch them find their own will and head off on their individual paths.

The adult butterfly is quite large, but I suspect not many people have seen one.
They spend the daylight hours perfectly still in dark forests, but once it gets dark enough that you can only just make out your surroundings, they fly through the woods at incredible speeds. If you are near a forest around sunset and see something the size of a fist zipping around at high speed, it might just be this butterfly. If you shine a light on them, they vanish. I like to think of them as a type of fairy.

The larvae of the Mycalesis gotama and Mycalesis francisca are wearing cat-ear masks, but the Melanitis phedima wears the mask of a black rabbit.
For a while after emerging from the egg, they gather together with their siblings, which is also cute, as if all the little ones are playing together.
The larvae feed on rather large monocotyledonous plants such as Judama, which produces fruits like lollipop candies, and Miscanthus sinensis.
Then, after repeated molting, each pattern appears on the black rabbit's mask, and it leaves to fend for itself.
It is interesting to see how they find their own will and go their own way.

During the daytime, the butterfly stays still in the dark forest, and when it is dark enough to see around it, it flies around the forest with great speed. If you are near the forest until the sun goes down and you see a shadow the size of your fist flying around you with great speed, it may be this butterfly. It disappears when you point a light at it. I think it is like a kind of fairy.

細かい傷や歪みなど、ハンドメイドならではの味わいを感じることもあるかもしれません。
デバイスや光源によっては色や雰囲気が異なって見えることもございます。
素材が木なので、吸湿と乾燥を繰り返すことで割れが発生する可能性があります。なるべく湿度の変化の少ない場所で保管することをお勧めします。特に直射日光が当たる場所やエアコンの吹き出し口付近での保管は木の劣化を早めるので避けて下さい。

In order to prevent damage during transportation, we ship the parts without assembling them (please check the second image. It will be shipped in this condition. ). Please assemble the parts upon arrival and glue them together with wood glue.
Basically, we do not accept returns or exchanges for customer reasons.
You may notice minor scratches, distortions, and other unique handmade flavors.
The color and atmosphere may look different depending on your device and light source.
Since the material is wood, repeated moisture absorption and drying may cause cracking. It is recommended to store the product in a place with as little change in humidity as possible. In particular, please avoid storing the product in direct sunlight or near air conditioner vents, as this will accelerate the deterioration of the wood.
