木彫りのサビイロネコです。
素材はヒノキ、着彩はアクリル絵の具です。
サイズは約高さ10㎝、横幅5㎝、奥行き8㎝です。

砂漠にすむ世界最小級の猫はクロアシネコだけど、樹上に住む世界最小級の猫はサビイロネコなのだそうだ。
家猫の子猫くらいのサイズで、落ち葉の陰に隠れられるくらい小さいらしい。

葉の下に隠れると言えば、もうそろそろ、マタタビの花が葉の下で咲く時期です。
猫好きならよく知る植物だけど、花は雌雄異株の虫媒花で、花が咲く時期のマタタビは虫を集めるために葉が白くなる。
木の高い位置に葉を伸ばすつる植物で、まるで塗料を塗ったみたいな白い葉が林縁を覆う様子は、山に出入りする人は見慣れた光景だと思うけれど、葉の下にほんの一時期つける花は見たことがない人も多いかもしれない。梅みたいな白い花を夏に付けるから、夏梅なんて呼ぶらしい。
花には花粉を食べる様々な虫が集まります。
花が終わると、白い葉は緑に戻ります。

Cat lovers are familiar with this plant, but its flowers are dioecious and insect-catalyzed, and the leaves of the Actinidia polygama turn white during the flowering season to attract insects.
The vine grows its leaves high up in the trees, and the white leaves, which look as if they have been coated with paint, covering the forest edge, is a familiar sight to those who go to the mountains, but many people may not have seen the flowers that bloom for a brief period of time under the leaves. They call them "summer plum" because they have white flowers that look like plums in summer.
The flowers attract a variety of pollen-eating insects.
When the flowers are over, the white leaves turn back to green.

素材が木なので、吸湿と乾燥を繰り返すことで割れが発生する可能性があります。なるべく湿度の変化の少ない場所で保管することをお勧めします。特に直射日光が当たる場所やエアコンの吹き出し口付近での保管は木の劣化を早めるので避けて下さい。
