木彫りのカツオドリ(アオアシカツオドリ)です。
素材はヒノキ、着彩はアクリル絵の具です。
サイズは約高さ10㎝、横幅5.8㎝、奥行き10.3㎝です。

カツオドリは海外ではbooby（間抜け）と呼ばれているらしい。
警戒心が弱く、船の帆に止まった彼らがすぐ人間に捕まってしまう様子から、その名前が付いているのだそうだ。
アオアシカツオドリの、陸上を歩く様子や求愛のダンスも、確かに抜けた感じの愛くるしさがある。
だけど実は、彼らは羽を広げると150㎝もある雄大な海鳥で、彼らが魚を採るために弾丸のようになって海へ吸い込まれる様子は、息をのむほど美しかったりする。

This is a wood carving of a booby (Sula nebouxii).
The material is cypress, and the coloring is acrylic paint.
The size is about 10cm high, 5.8cm wide, and 10.3cm deep.

Their name seems to mean dumb.
Their name comes from the way they are so wary and perched on the sails of ships that they are quickly caught by humans.
The Sula nebouxii's land walk and courtship dance are certainly cute in a goofy sort of way.
But in fact, they are majestic seabirds with wingspan of 150 cm, and the sight of them being sucked into the sea like bullets to catch fish is breathtakingly beautiful.

素材が木なので、吸湿と乾燥を繰り返すことで割れが発生する可能性があります。なるべく湿度の変化の少ない場所で保管することをお勧めします。特に直射日光が当たる場所やエアコンの吹き出し口付近での保管は木の劣化を早めるので避けて下さい。
